Assign an invigilator

For proctored exams which need to be supervised, you can use Proctor Tools to assign an invigilator to a student for one-on-one proctoring.

When an invigilator's Möbius account is assigned to a specific student, they are the only proctor-level user who can authorize the student to start the proctored exam, and they must use local authorization.

Users with a higher class role than the invigilator (such as the primary instructor for the class) can still authorize the student for that exam using Proctor Tools.

Möbius automatically unassigns the invigilator once the student submits the assignment, or the assignment attempt allowed by that invigilator is force-graded.

When assigning an invigilator, you have the option of sending custom messages to both the invigilator and the student via email (check out Variables and emails to the invigilator and student).

Assign an invigilator

To assign an invigilator to a specific student for the proctored exam:

1. Click Proctor Tools on the Class Homepage (check out Access Proctor Tools).

2. Click Advanced Search and complete search fields as needed to find the student (check out Advanced Search in Proctor Tools).

3. Select the name of the proctored exam from the Assignment Filter drop-down list.

4. Click Search.

5. Click Assign an invigilator next to the name of the student in the Select Students table.

6. Enter the Write Date (that is, when the invigilator and student should schedule to meet and invigilate the exam) using the calendar tool.

7. Use the Invigilator drop-down menu to select the user account of the invigilator.

8. Edit the Student Notes and the Invigilator Notes fields to add information that will be emailed to the student and invigilator respectively (check out Use a template invigilation email with variables).

9. Click Save and email to assign the invigilator and send emails to both student and invigilator, or click Save to assign the invigilator without sending emails.

10. The invigilator is now the only proctor who can authorize their student to start the exam (check out Perform local authorization).

Change the invigilator assigned to a student

If an invigilator is already assigned to that student, their name will appear instead of the Assign an invigilator button.

Click the name of the invigilator to re-open the Assign Invigilator dialog:

From here, you can change or unassign an invigilator, or edit and resend the customized emails to both the invigilator and the student.

Variables and emails to the invigilator and student

When you assign the invigilator, there are separate emails that will be sent to the student (using the information in Student Notes) and to the invigilator (using the information in Invigilator Notes).

The Student Notes and Invigilator Notes fields are blank by default on your Möbius site, but any information you add to these fields will be included in the respective emails.

These fields support the use of placeholders, which are replaced by information specific to the assignment, student or invigilator when the emails are sent.
